Sierra Leone’s President His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio has announced new ministers and other appointments as he carries on assembling his ministerial team to work in the “Right Direction” government.

After the appointment, President Bio tweeted: “I welcome every appointee and urge them to see their appointments as a national call to service. The task ahead deserves every sense of duty and responsibility. With dedication and our collective efforts, my new Administration will strive to build a safe, secure and prosperous future for Sierra Leone”.

A State House press statement states that it has pleased His Excellency the President to make the appointments subject to Parliamentary approval.

A list of twenty-one nominated Ministers and their Deputies, five Resident Ministers, and ten other appointments including Hon. Dr. Kandeh Yumkella as Chairman of the Presidential Initiative for Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security.

The Ministry of Information and Communications has been divided into two as Ministry of Information and Civic Education and the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation.

Sanitation has been moved from the Ministry of Health to the Ministry of Water Resources and formerly Ministry of Political Affairs is now Public Administration and Political Affairs.

Fourteen of the fifty-two appointees announced are women with one as the first female Sports Minister-designate. Eight are full Ministers and six are Deputy Ministers.
