In appreciating the President’s sense of fairness, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, said President Koroma’s exercise of prerogative of mercy over inmates, pursuant to section 63 of the Constitution of Sierra Leone, 1991, will not only enhance the country’s human rights image amongst the community of nations, but is also in line with Government’s commitment to decongest the correctional Centers.

The public relations officer of the Sierra Leone correctional service, Sulaiman Salieu Turay said President Ernest Koroma has the prerogative to do whatever and whenever he wishes to do so.

Mustapha Conteh, assistant director Sierra Leone correctional center awarded one of the inmates who were trained during his time in prison.  Many people are raising concern over the quantitative disparity of numbers between men and women that were released.
