WHO European Regional Obesity Report 2022 Launched Soon

The WHO European Regional Obesity Report, which is being published by the WHO European Office for the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases, will be launched onMay 3, 2022.

The report reveals that overweight and obesity are among the leading causes of death and disability in the WHO European Region, increasing the risk for many non-communicable diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic respiratory diseases

Secondly, two thirds of adults in the WHO European Region, and one in three school-aged children, are living with overweight or obesity

Also, the Report states that people living with overweight and obesity have been disproportionately affected by COVID-19, experiencing greater exposure to obesity risk factors and disruptions to help and treatment services during the pandemic, and being more likely to suffer severe illness and outcomes from contracting the disease.

The Report contains country-specific data drawn from the 53 WHO European Member States.
