AYV News, September 23, 2025

The Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) is constrained to report incidents of theft in some of the operational areas of the company across the country. A recent report indicated that in Kailahun, looters destroyed the control panel cables, but security interception (later overpowered) reported how the perpetrators left behind phones, clothes, bags and other gadgets while trying to flee the scene, unidentified.

The SALWACO Station Manager in Kailahun and the team alerted the police regarding the underdevelopment. The SALWACO Regional Manager East said that the investigation was in progress and that some suspects have already been arrested, helping the police with the investigation.

Activities of this nature should be discouraged in every respect. The looters almost destroyed the whole panel, causing a great loss and setback to the institution. People tend to complain about services and water provision, and now acts by some unpatriotic individuals tend to cause even more issues.

SALWACO continues to call on the police to speed up the investigation while encouraging community policing measures to assist the security and traceable apparatuses that we have also upgraded.

Acts of this nature have the proclivity to undermine the growth and development in the water sector, and so they should be discouraged at all costs.
