Sierra Leone Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh has dismissed speculation that he is positioning himself for the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) flagbearership, declaring that his immediate priority is to serve President Julius Maada Bio and deliver for the people.

Speaking on AYV’s State of the Nation, Dr. Sengeh said his motivation remains centred on supporting the President and ensuring the government delivers on its commitments to citizens.

“What keeps me going every day is how I can serve President Bio, how we can deliver for the people of this country, and how we can make life better for you and your loved ones in any way whatsoever,” he said.

Dr. Sengeh further stressed that his current focus is on President Bio and the performance of the SLPP-led government, rather than personal political ambitions.

“My primary focus at this minute is President Bio, to make sure the SLPP continues to do well and the government delivers for the people,” he stated.

He also called for unity within the governing party and among citizens, arguing that collective effort and the principles of radical inclusion are essential to achieving the government’s objectives.

“If we work together, if we believe in radical inclusion, and if we put our hands together, we will deliver for President Bio,” Dr. Sengeh said.

Reinforcing his loyalty to the President, the Chief Minister described President Bio in deeply personal terms, saying: “Personally, President Bio is my mentor, he’s my leader, he’s my friend and he’s my father figure.”

His comments come amid political speculation about possible contenders for the SLPP’s future leadership, but Dr. Sengeh’s remarks appear aimed at drawing a clear distinction between his current role in government and any future flagbearership ambitions.

For now, Dr. Sengeh says his attention remains firmly on supporting President Bio, strengthening the SLPP and helping the government deliver for Sierra Leoneans.
