The Office of National Security (ONS) has confirmed that Sierra Leone’s security sector is actively searching for alleged international drug trafficker Jos Leijdekkers, alongside Umarr Sheriff, amid ongoing efforts to disrupt the international drug supply chain.
Speaking on AYV’s State of the Nation Programme, Abdul Karim Will, Director of Strategic Communications at the ONS, said, “We are officially looking for Umarr Sheriff and we are also looking for Jos Leijdekkers in Sierra Leone.”
Will disclosed that Sierra Leonean authorities have conducted joint security operations with counterparts in Liberia, stressing the importance of timely intelligence sharing in the fight against drug trafficking.
“It is important that sensitive information is communicated promptly to help curtail the drug supply chain.”
He said international drug networks are highly organised and capable of penetrating systems, adding that Sierra Leone’s security architecture is similarly organised and prepared to counter such activities.
“These individuals are organised and know how to penetrate systems. That is why the ONS is equally organised and prepared to counter their activities.”
The ONS Director of Strategic Communications has therefore appealed to the public to provide credible information that could assist authorities in locating Leijdekkers and Sheriff.
“I am calling on the public to assist us with information about the whereabouts of Jos Leijdekkers.”
He added, “If you have any information about Umar Sherieff or Jos Leijdekkers, whom we are currently looking for, we encourage you to share that information with the relevant authorities.”
The ONS says public cooperation and timely intelligence remain critical to disrupting organised drug trafficking networks in Sierra Leone.
