Sierra Leone’s 2026 National Census launched

Statistics Sierra Leone has formally kicked off preparations for the 2026 National Population and Housing Census during a major ceremony at the Bintumani Conference Center in Freetown. The event drew government officials, development partners, civil society groups, and members of the diplomatic community.

Stats SL highlighted that the upcoming census will be vital for national planning, guiding decisions on resource allocation and informing policies in key sectors such as education, health, infrastructure, and social services. Officials also presented the major stages of the census process, including mapping, the use of modern technology, staff recruitment and training, and the timeline leading up to the enumeration period.

The public was urged to fully participate, with authorities stressing that an accurate count is essential to ensuring all communities are properly represented.

Public awareness campaigns are expected to intensify as the country moves closer to the 2026 census.
