The Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has successfully concluded its 55th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Makeni, reaffirming its commitment to press freedom, ethical journalism, and the sustainability of the media sector in Sierra Leone.
The AGM, held under the theme “Strengthening Sierra Leone’s Economy Through Responsible Journalism,” brought together journalists, government officials, development partners, and civil society representatives to discuss the role of the media in national development.
SLAJ President Alhaji Manika Kamara emphasized the importance of a free, independent, and professional media in promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance. He reaffirmed the Association’s dedication to protecting journalists and strengthening professional standards across the media landscape.
Key speakers at the event, including Mohamed AlhajieSamoura, Dr. Francis Sowa, and Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu, called for responsible journalism, improved media resilience, and enhanced cooperation between the media and state institutions.
The AGM also featured the SLAJ–IMC Media Awards Dinner, which recognized excellence and outstanding contributions in journalism.
Participants expressed optimism that the resolutions adopted at the AGM will strengthen the media sector, enhance professionalism, and contribute to democratic governance and economic development in Sierra Leone.
