The Presidential Candidate for the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in the June 2023 elections, Dr. Julius Maada Bio and his runningmate, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh have gone through provisional nomination at the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (EC-SL) Headquarters in Freetown.

The two candidates are now provisionally qualified to run for the presidency in the June 2023 elections. The nomination started after President Bio had earlier completed and signed the online form and the portal had verified and approved that the candidate had certified his willingness to stand for elections to the office of the President of Sierra Leone.

He had also indicated his qualification for the office of the President in accordance with the law and named Dr Juldeh Jalloh as his designated candidate for the office of Vice President, who consented.

Today, the verified printout copies of the detailed information captured in the commission’s data were issued to the candidates as a certified no-objection nomination by the national returning officer as acceptance of their nomination.

Chief Electoral Commissioner (CEC) for the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (EC-SL) and National Returning Officer, Mohamed Kenewui Konneh said: “Pursuant to Sections 43 and 44 of the Public Elections Act, 2022, and having received your nomination as Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates to whom these nomination papers relate, and to which you have stated, you are qualified for election for the offices of President and Vice President, respectively, of the Republic of Sierra Leone.

“By statutory declaration herein, I hereby provisionally accept your nomination for the above position, pending any objection to the Supreme Court of Sierra Leone. Congratulations.”

In his responses to the declaration and address to the media, President Bio reiterated his commitment to the peaceful conduct of the 24 June 2023 elections after having successfully gone through the nomination process with his vice-presidential candidate.

“As the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, my records for peaceful behaviour and conduct are beyond reproach. I have fought for Sierra Leone on the war front and at the peace table, and I will continue to fight not only for development but also for peace, development, and security.

“Therefore, before this nation, I commit that I, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, Presidential candidate of the great Sierra Leone People’s Party, will conduct a free and fair election through the ECSL and that I will do everything in my power to make sure that we have a peaceful election.

“I have been here three times in the past to be nominated, and my records are quite clear as far as my conduct is concerned, both as a person and as a member of my party. That is what I will commit, again today, to this nation. I am confident that I am going to win this election”.

Giving his key priorities while addressing supporters at the Brima Attouga Mini Stadium after the nomination process, President Bio advised supporters against involving in violence and the use of obscene language during their campaigns. He thanked them for bestowing respect, honour and trust in him to lead them to national development for a second 5 years.

Thank you Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, thank you former Vice President Victor Bockarie Foh, thank you Mohamed Gento Kamara and thank you Alhaji Alpha Kanu for believing in my manifesto for the development of Sierra Leone.

“With you in my team, my motive now is not to win electionsbut to continue building Sierra Leone, which is why we will continue to fish in all the good politicians in other political parties to join us in winning the 2023 elections and fixing Sierra Leone.” President Bio stated.

He expressed hope that with Gento and all the other new incomers, the SLPP will clearly win the city of Freetown.

The President said in Africa, Sierra Leone is now ranked the 4th most peaceful country, so he appealed to the good people not to allow the few bad people to change that image.

Sierra Leone must have a peaceful election and must not allow bad people to bring in violence. I encourage you all to go out on elections day and vote peacefully for all SLPP candidates.

Things are really tough, we know, but not in Sierra Leone alone. We have done all we can to ensure that we have the essentials but because of the global challenges, not everything will work just immediately but with time. Let’s all be patient, the SLPP will ensure Sierra Leone is sweet again.

Now we have the best result in the medical sector, especially in the area of maternal mortality, we have made progress on education and corruption index and most importantly, we have been acknowledged internationally for our good work and progress and I am confidently sure that things might be tough today but there are better days ahead.” President Bio said.
