She said SI Freetown is a member of the Federation of Great Britain and Ireland, which comprises of 355 clubs in 29 countries, adding that they are a vibrant dynamic women’s voluntary organization for today’s professional and business women.
The President said members join the club to work on projects that help improve the lives of women and girls locally, nationally and internationally, adding that each club identifies the needs of its community then establish specific projects to address those needs.
Giving the vision of the Club, Madam Cole said SI is committed to a world where women and girls together achieve their individual and collective potential, realize their aspirations and have an equal voice in creating strong peaceful communities worldwide.
She said their mission is to “inspire action and create opportunities to transform the lives of women and girls through a global network of members and international partnerships.”
Madam Cole said their values, among others, are human rights for all, advancing women’s potential and integrity and democratic decision-making, adding that their goals are to improve the lives and status of women and girls through education, empowerment or enabling opportunities and to be a global voice for increasing access to education and leadership for women and girls.
As part of their celebration programmes of making a difference with women and girls, the club had visited Cheshire Home at Cline Town with provision and toiletries and had also visited King George’s Home for the aged with similar items.
The club, according to the president, has done so much in improving the lives of women and girls in Sierra Leone including digging water wells for many communities, providing food stuff for women and children during the ebola epidemic and had provided water for the Milton Margai College of Education and Technology, Goderich Campus.
Meanwhile, the president said they will be organizing an Open Day at the Young Women Christian Association Hall at Rasmusson Street, Brookfields to showcase activities of the club for over 25 years, adding that they will be also visiting ebola survivors at Sima Town, Devil Hole on the 8th March 2016 which is International Women’s Day.
