The United States Ambassador to Sierra Leone, David Reimer has announced the presence of American Peace Corps Volunteers in Sierra Leone, comprising of Maths, Science and English teachers.

The delegation was received and welcomed by the Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission in the country.

Ambassador Reimer disclosed that the volunteers will focus on improving education and health systems in the country as they will be working directly with the people of Sierra Leone to achieve the broader goal of a sustainable health and educational transformation.

He also noted that members of the US Embassy recently engaged in a give-back to local people, adding that the team shared donations involving snacks, played games, read stories, and enjoyed spending time with staff.

Ambassador Reimer said: “Welcome to Salone! The newest group of Peace Corps volunteers just arrived in and were welcomed by our Deputy Chief of Mission. Volunteers will focus on improving education and health systems, working directly with the people of Sierra Leone.”

In another development, the Embassy’s Public Affairs Officer, Sarah Van Horne bids farewell to the 2023 Fulbrighters.

Sarah Van Horne said: “All the best to our 2023 Fulbrighters who have left Sierra Leone to pursue fully funded Masters degrees in the United States.

“Francis Momoh, MA in Anthropology, Beatrice Momodu Kamara, MA in Public Affairs, and Alie Vandi Tarawally, MPH in Public Health will be in the U.S. for the next two years studying in different universities.

“Every year, the U.S. Embassy sends a minimum of 47 Sierra Leoneans to the United States on different cultural exchange programs. This is an example of the United States’ commitment to empowering the next generation of Sierra Leonean leaders.”
