Sierra Leone will tomorrow March 8, 2023 join the world to celebrate in International Women’s Day. The Government of Sierra Leone has declared tomorrow a public holiday in celebration of the Day.

On March 8 each year, governments and people over all the world get together to celebrate the International Women’s Day. The Day is set aside every year to reflect on the progress the world has made in terms of addressing the perennial challenges women face on a daily basis.

It should also provide an opportunity for state and non-state actors to review the agenda, reshape the strategies and come up with more practical ways of addressing impediments to addressing gender imbalances that exist, as well as the serious violations that women suffer.

Sierra Leone is among the countries that have declared March 8 a public holiday, clearly recognizing the need to fully reflect on the strategies that have been adopted to champion the cause of women.

International Women’s Day is a day for women to join voices with people around the world and shout out message for equal rights loud and clear: “Women’s rights are human rights!”

The theme for International Women’s Day 2023 is Cracking the Code: Innovation for a gender equal future’. This theme is based on the United Nations 67th Commission on the Status of Women priority theme Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.

On International Women’s Day, it is remembered that as long as one woman faces discrimination, harassment, inequality or oppression, all women do.
