According to Madam Pratt the step taken by the H.E. Julius Maada Bio and the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party in terms of establishing the committee to stop violence among their supporters is a step in the right direction.

She added that they have made suggestions to the President that they need a national peace and reconciliation conference that will address the issues so that they can put behind them the ugly recent incidents.

“Traditional leaders need to step-up and take ownership of this problem in communities by coming together to preach peace, reconciliation and forgiveness,” Pratt said when speaking to AYV.

Elections according to Madam Pratt have come and gone, noting that this is not the first time Sierra Leone is having elections and post-elections violence which is a phenomenon of elections in many parts of the world. She added however Sierra Leone’s case is not beyond salvaging and recalled what happened in Kenya in 2008 and 2017 during their electioneering process.

“We needs to bring communities, youth and groups together so that they can start to talk about not only peace or tribal issues but building nationalism and patriotism,” Memunatu Pratt said.

She noted that the major reason for the violence is because there has been a gross failure of Sierra Leone since independence to establish strong culture of political tolerance, nationalism and putting the country first.
