The United States Ambassador to Sierra Leone, David Reimer has unveiled a remarkable painting to memorialise Freetown’s fallen iconic cotton tree.

Crafted by popular artist Sahr Songu Briwa from Bondumani Art, the historic painting pays homage to Sierra Leone’s renowned Cotton Tree and its deep-rooted historical significance.

Ambassador Reimer expressed his sorrow over the impact of climate change on this iconic tree.

He said: “We are saddened that this historic tree has been affected by the climate. This historic symbol of Freetown was rich with history that connects Sierra Leone with the United State of America especially the Gullahs (A distinctive group of African Americans from South Carolina and Georgia in the Southeastern United States that trace their roots to Sierra Leone).”

Through this awe-inspiring painting, Ambassador Reimer emphasised the importance of preserving the memory and honoring the enduring significance of the Cotton Tree in the hearts of the people of Sierra Leone.

The artwork serves as a tangible reminder of the tree’s cultural heritage and its profound impact on the nation.
