Vice President Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has assured one thousand one hundred graduating recruits of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) of training opportunities at tertiary institutions.
He informed the recruits of the Government of Sierra Leone priority to ensure public servants like the police and the army are given the opportunities to study and have access to Grant-in-Aid.
He reiterated that the Government will continue to encourage police officers to go out for international training, citing the recent returned of twenty officers from the People’s Republic of China after completing middle level professional training.
Lamenting on international assignment, Vice President Jalloh said that foreign assignment gives police officers the opportunities to improve on their learning skills by participating in peace keeping, and provide the police the opportunities for self-improvement and additional revenues.
Vice President Jalloh disclosed the recruitment of additional manpower into the Police Force by the Government of Sierra Leone, stating the progressive increase of manpower of the Force in the last couple of years.
Dr Jalloh narrated Government efforts to improve the professionalism of the Sierra Leone Police in the recent past by improving the welfare and conditions of service through salary increments and benefits more than before in Sierra Leone; and the progressive increased of police vehicles and motorbikes to improve on rural policing, particularly in remote areas.
Dr Jalloh admonished the police recruits of their responsibilities to display high professionalism, best behavior, and discipline. “It is the responsibility of the police to put on best behavior, because the police is an epitome of law and order and police should demonstrate that daily” he buttressed.
Vice President Jalloh on behalf of President Julius Maada Bio assured the recruits of Government of Sierra Leone continue support to the police with the finances needed to work, he however stressed Government expectation of the graduating police to be professional and discipline in the discharged of their duties.
The Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police, William Fayia Sellu said that the R1 23 recruits comprised one thousand one hundred personnel who have gone through seven months hybrid operational and general duty trainings. He maintained that the recruits are better trained to stand the test of time.
The police boss reminded the recruits that police as an institution is mandated to fight crime in society as well as fight cyber laws, local and international organize crimes.
He urged the recruits to be prepared to maintain the ideals and culture of the police, and to exhibit the highest standard of professionalism in the day-to-day discharge of their duties.
