A West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examiner and a student have been charged in connection with a National Primary School Examination (NPSE) script, in a case that has drawn attention to the fight against examination malpractice in Sierra Leone.
The development comes as the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) maintains its zero-tolerance stance on examination malpractice, emphasising the need to protect the credibility and integrity of public examinations.
The charging of the two individuals highlights the seriousness of offences that threaten fairness and accountability in the country’s examination system.
Public examinations play a critical role in determining pupils’ academic progression, making the integrity of examination scripts and the conduct of those responsible for handling them essential to public confidence.
The Ministry’s position sends a strong message to students, examiners and other stakeholders that examination malpractice undermines the credibility of results and disadvantages candidates who follow the rules.
