The Kenema Old Students Association (KOSA), in collaboration with the administration of Government Secondary School in Kenema, has initiated legal proceedings against the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Sierra Leone, challenging the cancellation of the 2025 WASSCE results of one of its candidates, Unpha Lamin Koroma.
According to KOSA, the dispute stems from the initial withholding of more than 50 results by WAEC upon the release of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The association noted that no clear justification was provided at the time, prompting formal engagement with the examination body to request a review and publication of the affected results.
WAEC later indicated that investigations into alleged examination malpractice were ongoing and assured stakeholders that findings would be communicated upon completion. Following the review, all previously withheld results—including that of Koroma—were released, with no indication of wrongdoing attached to the candidate.
However, KOSA stated that weeks after the release, WAEC unilaterally cancelled Koroma’s results without providing any formal explanation to the school or relevant stakeholders. The association described the move as unexpected, particularly as the candidate had reportedly emerged among the top-performing students, obtaining six A1 grades, two B2 grades, and one B3 grade.
KOSA and the school administration have expressed concern over what they describe as a lack of transparency and due process, arguing that the decision raises serious questions about procedural fairness and adherence to principles of natural justice.
The matter has now been referred to a court of competent jurisdiction for adjudication. KOSA has expressed confidence in the judicial system and says it remains committed to ensuring that the issue is resolved in accordance with the law.
A Writ of Summons has been filed as part of the legal action, with the association indicating that further updates will be provided as the case progresses.
