The Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) has held its inaugural Female Members of Parliament Knowledge Orientation Seminar.

The two-day capacity-building event took place at Nimiyama Hotel Poyor Bar, Rokel village, in the Western Area Rural District, aimed to equip female Members of Parliament (MPs) with a comprehensive understanding of parliamentary procedures and related activities.

Finda Fraser, the Director General of Parliament, delivered a warm welcome address expressing her honor in being part of this initiative to advance the participation of women in the political landscape.

Mrs. Fraser emphasised the significance of the seminar in empowering female MPs, highlighting the role of WFD in supporting the work of Parliament. She acknowledged WFD’s consistent efforts in promoting good governance and democracy, and she expressed gratitude for their ongoing commitment to these principles.

Operating in Sierra Leone for over two decades, the Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) has been a key player in fortifying democratic institutions. Active support for the Parliament of Sierra Leone has transformed it into a transparent and accessible entity, globally recognized for open government principles.

WFD’s contributions include a vibrant research department, enhanced Hansards capacity, south-to-south learning, and regional integration among Members of Parliament. The foundation’s commitment to inclusivity is evident in efforts to boost the involvement of persons with disabilities in electoral and political processes.
