Youth Minister engages UN Envoy…strengthening youth development in Sierra Leone

The Minister of Youth Affairs, Ibrahim Sannoh, has held a high-level meeting with Felipe Paullier during a courtesy visit at the Ministry’s office in Freetown.

Dr. Paullier, who is on his first official visit to Sierra Leone, was accompanied by Seraphine Wakana. The engagement underscored growing international recognition of Sierra Leone’s strides in youth development and policy reform.

During the meeting, Minister Sannoh highlighted key government initiatives, including the proposed Youth Development Act, the Status of Youth Report, and inclusive governance measures such as the 30 percent women’s representation policy under the Gender Empowerment framework championed by President Julius Maada Bio.

In response, Dr. Paullier commended Sierra Leone’s leadership on youth-related issues, describing the country as an influential voice within the United Nations system. He reaffirmed the UN’s commitment to supporting youth empowerment through investments in education, innovation, governance, and economic opportunities.

The visit marks a significant step toward strengthening collaboration between Sierra Leone and the United Nations, particularly in advancing policies and programmes aimed at empowering young people across the country.
