The accused person is facing one count charge of Sexual Penetration of an eight –year old girl name withheld at Krio Town, Tombo along the Freetown –peninsular road sometime in April 2018.

The charge preferred against the alleged sex offender contravenes Section (19) of the Sexual Offences Act of 2012.

Testifying in court, the first prosecution witness Detective Police Constable 14335 Ibrahim Sorie Sesay intimated the court that he is attached to the Family Support Unit (FSU) of the Tombo Police Station.

He recognized the accused person Osman Kamara, the victim and her and recalled the incident of 19 April 2018, and that on the above-stated date, he was on duty at the Family Support Unit at the Tombo Police Station.

Detective Police Constable 14335 Ibrahim Sorie Sesay further testified that while on duty at the said police station the victim accompanied by her mother Mariatu Kargbo arrested and brought in  the accused person, Osman Kamara and reported an alleged  case of sexual penetration on behalf of her daughter.

He went on to inform the court that he later issued police medical request form to the victim for examination and treatment at the rainbow centre in Freetown.

According to the witness the endorsed police medical request form was returned to the police, which was produced in court for identification.

He narrated that on 20 April 2018 himself and a social worker further interviewed the victim in the presence of the victim’s mother, after which Detective Police Constable 14016 Barrie A obtained contemporaneous interview statement from the accused person.

The witness added that on 23 April 2018, himself, the victim and her mother including Detective Police Constable 14016 Barrie A.  and the accused person visited the scene of crime at Krio Town in Tombo, but nothing of police interest was found.

He further told the court that on 6th July 2018, Detective Police Constable Barrie obtained charge statement from the accused person in respect of the offence charged.

The said charged statement of the accused person Osman Kamara was produced in court and tendered in evidence as part of the court record.

Since there was no more witness to testify, Hon. Justice Monfred Sesay ordered that the accused person, Osman Kamara be kept at the Male Correctional Centre at Pademba Road in Freetown.

The matter was adjourned to Tuesday 26th February this year.
