Speaking during the certification ceremony, the Chairman of the PPRC, Justice Tholla E. M. Thompson pointed out that political parties are democratic institutions charged with the responsibility of shaping the will of the people not only during electioneering period but always.
He recounted that the Alliance Democratic Party must ensure it operates within the confines of the laws of the Commission and the provisions in the national Constitution of Sierra Leone. He admonished the party’s executive to view itself as the servant to the members and supporters of the party. The party, he said has met all the requirements set by the Commission and the national constitution and that the Commission saw it fit to have the party certified.
According Justice Tholla Thompson, political parties should be responsible institutions with a clear defined role to transform the country politically, socially, culturally and economically and otherwise.
In response, the National Chairman and Leader of the newly certified ADP, Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray remarked: “today marks a remarkable day in the political history of Sierra Leone,” adding that the PPRC has demonstrated that it is indeed a democratic institution in the country, while assuring the Commission that the activities of his party will never contravene the laws of the country as according to him, ADP is a fulfillment of his promise to Sierra Leoneans who are yearning for change.
Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray further maintained that ADP’s ideology is centered on change and plain truth, adding that his party will base its foundation on integrity and justice. The ADP Leader charged that his values are not based political accessories put on to win support but that his entire life is built on the foundation of the principles of moral values. He used the forum to appeal well meaning Sierra Leoneans to join him make the necessary needed in Sierra Leone.
In his statement, the Interim National Secretary General of the ADP, David Gbla noted that the ADP is a beacon for the young people in Sierra Leone. He said the change is what young people must make for themselves and not being used, abused, misused and refused old politicians as before. He challenged the youth to take forefront of the country’s development aspirations for the good of all and sundry, adding that the future of Sierra Leone must carved by the youth who he referred to as e country’s “powerhouse.”
