The project, which is titled ‘Community Transformation through Education, Health Promotion and Infrastructure’, was implemented by the community people themselves.
Presenting the facility to the community, LEOCEM Managing Director, Mr. Arne B. Johansen said the project like all other projects carried out by LEOCEM within the community was fruitful simply because of the closed collaboration between the company and the community. “When you have good relationship with the community people where you operate good things always come out, the MD noted, praising the Kanikay community youths for a job well done especially in rigorously participating in the constructing of the facility for the community.
In giving a synopsis of the project, Hon. Rosaline Jariatu Smith, representing that Constituency said LEOCEM has been very supportive of the community in every facets of development, noting that the construction of taps, awards of scholarships to students from secondary, tertiary and University, among others, forms part of the seventy-five thousand United States Dollars (US $75 thousand) provided by the company inclusive of the facility about to be handed over to the community in the Community Development Fund.
When the Ebola struck, she said, the company took the lead by providing basic needs for quarantined homes.
Mr. Gary Whitehead, a member of the LEOCEM Board and Financial Director, Heidelberg Cement group Africa also witnessed the handing over ceremony and made valuable contributions.
Talking to AWOKO, Chief Pa Alimamy Conteh aka One Stone, expressed his appreciation of LEOCEM for considering the health sector in the community, noting that this is not the only developmental projects supported by the company. He appealed for proper maintenance of the facility by the community youths as the new facility is for them.
