“Those that have C4 and better in subjects such as Physics, Science, Math, English and Biology will proceed to pre-med two. That means, they would be able to go straight to Year 1 Medicine,” he said, adding that for those in Pre-Med 1they will be going over to Pre-Med 2 if they pass.
The acting Registrar maintained that the criteria to pass from Pre-Med 1 to Pre-Med 2 is that the student should pass all four subjects including Math, Physics, Biology and Chemistry adding that, the students should pass all the subjects with not less than fifty percent and that at the end of the day, the University is looking for an average of 55% minimum to be promoted.
He further said if the student doesn’t meet the requirement of 55% but has 50% he or she will have the opportunity to repeat in Pre-Med 1, adding that if the student does not meet the 50 % criteria in any of the four subjects, the student will not be allowed to repeat.
“For Pre-Med 2, it is a little different. The four core subjects are Biology, Chemistry, Math and Physics. The very first criterion is students should pass these subjects with no less than 50% which means that you are clear. But if you fail any subject with 40% or less the student will have the opportunity to sit a reference provided the student makes 170% average on the three other subjects’’
Mr. Bah further explained that if a student in Pre – med 2 fails two of the four subjects but has an average of 120% from two other subjects, the student would have an opportunity to do a re-sit exam. He added that if at all the student does not fall in these two situations; the student will not be able to re-sit any exams in Pre-Med 2. Mr. Bah maintained that these are all part of the regulations of COMAHS.
