The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (EC-SL) yesterday 16th February, 2023 held an official launch of the project: ‘Ensuring Locally – led Elections are Credible and Transparent (ELECT) in Sierra Leone’ at an engagement with elections stakeholders in Freetown.

In attendance were the Chief Electoral Commissioner and Chairman, Commissioner Edmond S. Alpha, the American Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Ambassador David Reimer, the President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, representatives of Office of National Security, Independent Radio Network, National Election Watch and other civil society groups on governance and a cross-section of the media.

During the launch, the Chief Electoral Commissioner used the opportunity to update the meeting on the EC-SL’s preparedness to conduct the June 2023 Elections and particularly the EC-SL’s ongoing nationwide stakeholders’ engagement and awareness raising on the Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system that will be used to transform votes into seats in Sierra Leone.

The project which was officially launched by the US Ambassador to Sierra Leone, is funded by USAID, the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the International Republican Institute (IRI).

In similar development, the EC-SL has assured that it will continue its nationwide sensitisation on the District Block Proportional Representation System (DBPR) from today 17th to Tuesday, 21st February 2023.

The sensitisation will be done at the district Headquarters town and the aim is to give knowledge and create awareness about the system that will enable stakeholders to actively participate in the process.
