The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has officially signed a contract with Edel Grass to construct four new artificial turf pitches at the Approved School and SLFA Academy in Freetown, Port Loko town field, and Coronation Field in Bo.

The contract also includes upgrading the standards of Kono Field and Kenema Town Fields. The signing ceremony took place on July 11, 2023, at the SLFA headquarters in Freetown.

The Vice President 1 of the SLFA, Harold Nat Johnson, and Mark Jonkers of Edel Grass exchanged pleasantries before signing the contract, which they believe will improve the quality of play of their players in clubs and national team levels.

They will provide much-needed playing surfaces for football players in Sierra Leone. The upgraded Kono Field and Kenema Town Fields will also be a welcome addition to the country’s football infrastructure.

The new artificial turf pitches are expected to be completed by the end of 2023. This move has been commended as a sign of progress for the SLFA, which is committed to developing football in Sierra Leone.
