PI-CREF, ARISE IIP and partners make progress on Integrated Food Parks in Sierra Leone and Special Economic Zone.
Sierra Leone’s Presidential Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security (PI-CREF), ARISE IIP and other partners have met to discuss progress on pre-feasibility work for the establishment of integrated food parks in Sierra Leone.
The partners discussed the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) – including the establishment of an Integrated Agro-Industrial Food Parks in Sierra Leone.
Currently, a team is conducting a pre-feasibility study for the Integrated Agro-Industrial Food Parks with funding support from the Vienna-based UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
PI-CREF is providing technical assistance, coordination and mobilizing private sector knowledge for the pre-feasibility.
Dr. Patrick Kormawa, Director of Agriculture and Food Security, and Dr. Juliana Vangahun, Rice Specialist, hosted both Mr. Samuel Kambo, Country Manager of ARISE IIP and Ms. Janet Mammy Sesay, Assistant Director for Agribusiness Development at the Ministry of Trade and Industry at the initiative’s secretariat to discuss progress on Integrated Food Parks in Sierra Leone and Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
On behalf of Chairman Kandeh Yumkella, Director Kormawa expressed appreciation and underscored that the Office of the Presidential Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Food Security (PI-CREF) is ready to work with partners in promoting and actualizing the “Feed Salone” programme as well as the establishment of the food parks.
