All People’s Congress (APC) Member of Parliament (MP) representing Moyamba district, Hon. Ben Alpha Mansaray, who doubles as Deputy Spokesman for the APC Parliamentary Group, has called for the resignation of Sierra Leone’s Minister of Energy.

He voiced strong concerns over the state of the country’s electricity situation, pointing out that electricity outages had become more frequent and severe compared to the previous government.

Hon. Mansaray said the APC left the country with a stable 24-hour electricity supply in 2018, but that under the current administration, the power situation had significantly worsened.

Other Members of Parliament, including Hon. Mahmud Kamara, Hon. Aminata, and Opposition Whip Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara, joined in criticising the government’s handling of the energy crisis. They collectively argued that the current administration had failed to meet the energy needs of the people of Sierra Leone.

Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara specifically challenged the Karpowership, accusing it of failing to deliver the promised 60 MW of electricity to Freetown. The MPs also highlighted that the government had abandoned crucial local energy sources, such as the Kingtom power plant and Black Hall power station, which further exacerbated the country’s electricity problems.
