Energy Sector Lead, Dr. Kandeh Yumkella, has visited the Blackhall Road Power Station to have a first-hand assessment of the status of maintenance works on generators, which, after the repairs, would significantly boost the delivery of electricity to homes, business centres, essential social facilities, and industries in Freetown.
Dr. Yumkella said he was at the station on the instructions of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, noting that the President was committed to ensuring that the repairs were done without any financial let or hindrance.
He spoke about the fruitful meeting he held with the President a couple of days ago during which time the President stressed the critical need and urgency for the generators to be repaired. He thanked President Bio for approving the funds, adding that the Blackhall Road generators would guarantee 16MW of electricity generation.
Dr. Yumkella thanked the Deputy Minister II of Energy and the Director General of EGTC for their supervisory role. He also thanked the engineers for sparing no effort in ensuring the rehabilitation work is completed before December this year.
He concluded by speaking about the synergy and collaboration between international and local engineers while also sounding upbeat about the availability of a huge quantity of spare parts being a catalyst for speedy work. He said the machines will be up and running before the end of the year.
