The objective of the visit was to get a first hand information on challenges people face in accessing safe drinking water, better sanitation and improve hygiene condition for everyone and everywhere in the country.

During the visit, one of the public toilets at Ginger hall community in Ward 365, Constituency 104 Western Urban East of Freetown has turned in to dwelling house. The reason for it turning in to a dwelling according to the care take Alie Badara was that there has not been water to sustain the sanitation aspect. He said  cleaning of the toilet has posed serious challenges to them as care takers  therefore they were left with no alternative but to transform the toilet in to their own dwelling house.

He lauded the importance of the toilet despite the fact that it has been transform to personal dwelling house.    He said the one that is left for to be use as public toilet also has challenges for water, sanitation and better hygiene.   He noted that they are not demanding money for people to use the toilet and therefore there is no sources of income to up keep the facility. He blamed the sitting   councilor as not been able to know their welfare in the community. Our councilor is no longer staying in the community since he assumed power. We have no were to channel pour complain” he said.

Another issue also was that the network did not see any dumping ground to be use as a transit point for garbage collection for MASSADA or any water management company.  In the community is how to access safe drinking water.  Most of the community people relied on well for domestic and some drinking purposes.

In related community in Ward 365 and 368 respectively in constituencies 103, community people also raised similar demands. Infact in ward 365 and ward 368, there is no public toilet identify for public uses. The community lacks basic needs such as pipe born water, good roads, public toilet and better hygiene facilities.

According to one of the well care taker on one public well, Osman B Kamara half of mount Aureole, ginger hall, coconut firm only access through the one well in the community. He therefore appeals for any good will ambassador or government to come to their aid.  Councilors in those wards were contact but all effort was fruitless.
