He further explained that as a result of the operations of Sierra Leone Brewery Limited, the demand for Sorghum had rapidly increased a situation he said encouraged them to effectively embark on large scale farming and created job opportunities for many Sierra Leoneans.

Managing Director of the company, Willy Ngana, said the first ever Sierra Leonean 100 per cent Sorghum beer dubbed ‘Salone Beer’, was in fulfillment of the company’s earlier commitment made to the president in support of the local content policy and as their own contribution to the post Ebola recovery priorities of the country. He added that such a move was a great achievement for Brewery, adding that 90 per cent of those that were employed by the company were Sierra Leoneans, which showed that they were in full support of the local content policy.

Officially launching the product as well as commissioning the waste water treatment plant and mash filter Vice President Foh said the move by brewery aligned with his government’s local content policy, adding that that would increase the involvement of local farmers in Sorghum farming.

He described the company as “a true friend who had been with the country through thick and thin”, adding that both the company and the government would continue to work together.

Representing the ministry of agriculture, deputy minister Lovell Thomas requested for a memorandum of understanding between his ministry and management of brewery that they would adequately control the current demand of Sorghum.

He further encouraged farmers to largely involve in Sorghum farming as there was a well-established Sorghum consumer in the country.

Deputy minister of trade and industry, Ibrahim Mansaray, said they would collaborate with the ministry of agriculture for efficiency and great productivity of Sorghum for domestic use and for export purposes.
