The Wages and Compensation Commission will be aiming to bring fairness into the system with respect to salaries and benefits of public sector workers.

The process of this engagement with media practitioners aimed at soliciting their views and clarifications that would enhance the process and factual work of the commission.

These proposed commission though focus on equity with respect to public service and not the private sector started a-year-ago as a consultancy and expectation for the commission to take off by next year is structures are put in place.

This proposed Wages and Compensation Commission will be intending to ensure that public sector pays and intensive system in not only able to attract and retain the requisite skill, but that it also able to applied in a consistent and sustainable manner so that the public sector pay fairly the work of that the public servant actually perform.

The specific goal of the consultancy according to Madam Georgiana Kamara is to ensure that the legal framework, appropriate system and procedures that are required for the establishment of a viable and functioning wages and compensation commission of the country.

Madam Georgiana Kamara noted that a technical committee was constituted as a way of enhancing the work of the consultant, stating that coordination of the consultancy was carried out by the Public Sector Reform Unit.

According to Madam Georgiana Kamara there are many issue relating to public sector remuneration, citing that the trust of the commission when establish will look at the issue about disparities in public service salaries which is remuneration of salaries and benefits.

In his presentation on the Inception Report Gorge Smith-Graham said the commission will look to harmonize public sector pay system in addressing issue relating to disparity amongst the various payroll categories.

“The objective for the establishment of the wages and compensation commission will address issue related to disparity in terms and condition of service amongst sub-vented agencies” Mr. Graham said; adding that it will ensure a fair and equitable wages and compensation system that is consistent and sustainable.
