According to the Yumkella supporters, the SLPP was born in 1951 and killed in 2011 by Julius Maada Bio and on the other hand the Maada Bio loyalists are claiming that the SLPP was born in 1951 and was killed by Yumkella in 2016.

It can be recalled that after serving as party in governance for over 10years the SLPP loses its center hold immediately after the All People’s Congress (APC) party leader, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma disgracefully defeated SLPP’s Julius Maada Bio in the 2012 presidential elections.

Since then, the party has recorded some deep internal divide and disputes among members and supporters, with some members and supporters throwing their complete loyalty to Maada Bio (pa-o-pa camp) and some others laying their lives for Yumkella (KKY Movement camp).

Other presidential aspirants like the John Oponjo Benjamin (Team JOB), Alpha Timbo, Alpha Wurie, Andrew Keili, Munda Rogers and others are still below the belt line struggling to gain loyalist among the party’s membership. As a result, they have lesser political tension when it comes to propaganda on social media an nothing much is seen or heard of them from their handful of supporters.

If indeed the SLPP is a living political corpse awaiting funeral arrangements and burial, then Sierra Leone’s political landscape is gradually being troubled as there is all possibility that the country is returning to one party state.

The urgent need for the hierarchy of the SLPP including Maada and Yumkella to come together and put a stop to this kind of social media propaganda by their supporters cannot be over emphasized.
