The Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby, PhD, MPH and his senior leadership team, today did a site inspection visit to assess progress of the construction of a modern Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences facility at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS).
Part of the trip was for the team to see how much work has been done and to speak to contractors about possible timelines for completion of the building.
Worth around USD$3.5Million, this modernized landmark facility symbolises the Government of Sierra Leone’s desire to practically transform the way healthcare is seen and taught. The new facility will host about 1,500 students, and when completed, it will be a centre of excellence for medical education, training, research and innovation.
In addition to providing an enabling environment for the production of top-quality health workers, this new edifice will represent more than just bricks and walls. It will become a beacon of hope and a testament to the Government of Sierra Leone’s unwavering dedication to nurturing the future of healthcare.
“We will use this facility to train the next generation of health professionals,” Dr Demby said.
The new faculty building will embody cutting-edge technology, including top laboratories, interactive teaching classrooms, and advanced research capabilities, creating an ideal environment for learning and discovery.
