Sierra Leone’s Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah has assured that the Government of President Dr. Julius Maada Bio will repeal the 1965 Public Archives law and replace it with one that is fit for the 21st century and the president’s values.
He was speaking at the ‘Capacity Building’ workshop on Records Management convened by the Rights to Access Information Commission in Freetown.
He said: “We will build on and advance the terrific work done by my predecessor to advance President Bio’s vision for an open, free society where information is a right. We will finalise and adopt a modern and progressive records management policy and build the records management infrastructure across government.
“We will work with our partners in the information and records space, parliament and other allies to transform our records management, digitize and modernise our systems and increase access to information and records for the public. It is the right thing to do and we will deliver”.
