Speaking to AYV, the Executive Chairman, Muwahid Gibril Sesay said the donation made included 10 bags rice , 5 cartoons of tomato , 2 cartoons of Maggie and 5 bags of onions. He explained that since the outbreak of the deadly diseases in the country, the organization has been embarking on social mobilization through a door to door Ebola sensitization campaign, thereby educating inmates about the disease and also providing buckets and chlorine for the community people in order to be safe.
“The primary objective of the organization is to promote unity, equality and concern for all, this three days stay at home especially for the less privileged is a concern for the organization,” the Chairman Sesay said. He stressed that it is a positive response to the clarion call of the President to help individually or collectively in order to eradicate this deadly disease from our country.
He further explained that even though the community has not recorded any Ebola confirmed case, it is important that they strengthen the awareness raising campaign to see to it that their community remains free from the deadly Ebola disease.
The Secretary General of Crojimmy Best Organization (CBO), Sulaiman Kargbo aka CPO said their organization sees Ebola as a disease that could either infect or affect people’s livelihood and that it doesn’t care whether you’re Mende, Temne or Limba. He maintained that the fight against the disease needs corporation, coordination and commitment.
Bollore boosts Lunsar health care
Freetown Terminal, Bollore Ltd has donated 300kg of powdered chlorine and a carton of latex hand gloves to Lunsar Community Health Centre. Programme Manager of Bollore, Keith Mueller described the Ebola outbreak as a national concern that “warrants the efforts of all in order to fight the disease out of the country.” Mueller said recently at the health centre that their donation was to demonstrate their commitment in ensuring the people of Marampa Chiefdom were prevented from the Ebola virus. He promised the government and people of Sierra Leone that they would continue to render support towards combating the Ebola disease that has claimed the lives over 500 hundred people in the country.
The Programme Manager said they had “a long standing relationship” with people of Lunsar and that they were moved by the “terrible” upsurge in the spread of the Ebola virus. He stated that the donation was not the last because according to him, “just as you all are at risk so we also are.” He however urged community authorities to embark on effective sensitization and use the items judiciously.
Prior to the donation, the clearing and forwarding business group donated Le 50 million to the Health Ministry.
Paramount Chief, Bai Koblo Quee, commended Freetown Terminal for considering his chiefdom in donating such quantum of chlorine. He described the virus as a threat to the development of the country and the security of the state. PC Quee added that the virus was new and it was killing people across the country. He called on his people to adhere to warnings against Ebola issued by health workers. “If we all do what they ask us to do, we can defeat Ebola together as a nation and family,” the Paramount Chief said.
On behalf of the government and the community, Mohamed S. Kargbo, Senior District Officer of Port Loko thanked Bollore for the donation. He assured them that the items would be distributed evenly among communities. He stated that targeting the communities was a good move made by the company as according to him, “most donations are done directly to the central government, which at times reach the communities late.”
