The Moa Wharf community is one of the areas that were badly hit by the Ebola outbreak in 2014 and 2015. It could be recalled that in 2012 the Moa Wharf community was also affected by the cholera outbreak that claimed the lives of hundreds of people while thousands including children became homeless.

According to health experts, poor sanitation is the principal factor responsible for diseases like cholera coupled with Ebola in most communities in the Freetown municipality.

Abu Bakarr Mansaray is the Chairman of Moa Wharf Community; he highlighted some of the problems troubling residents of that community reiterating that lack of proper toilets and garbage sites are affecting the life of the people and appealed to government to come to their aid while some people also appealed to the authorities concerned to provide proper toilets and garbage collection sites for them.

Observers say government should look into the concerns raised by people as according to them some of it could serve as early warning to avoid any future disaster.
