CNN has revealed that for today Tuesday 14th June, the weather will be 84o/76o (68%) with a couple of thunderstorms, tomorrow Wednesday will be 85o/76o (40%) with a shower or t-storm in spots and Thursday will be 85o/76o (61%) with a couple of thunderstorms whilst Friday will have 82o/75o (80%) and a cloud with a t-storm or two.
It can be recalled that this was the similar warning issued by CNN, BBC, Al-Jazeera and other international weather forecasters prior to the torrential rains on September 17, 2015 that caused heavy flooding and extensive damage to homes and property in the capital, Freetown, with telephone communication and electricity disrupted.
The aftermath of the flooding then, also saw President Ernest Bai Koroma summoning an urgent security meeting to discuss government’s response to the crisis, a decision that was viewed by many as “very late”.
With this same warning sounded yesterday, it is expected that the Government of Sierra Leone and authorities responsible for disaster prevention, such as the Office of National Security (ONS), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society among others, will summon an urgent security meeting to discuss government’s proactive response to the warning instead of summoning another urgent security meeting to discuss government’s late response to the crisis when it would have occurred and lives and properties destroyed.
