People across the world were moved and pleased to see opposition leaders, members and supporters dining with leaders, members and supporters of the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) Party at the wedding of the first daughter of His Excellency President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, Chairman and Leader of the APC.

The wonderful moment came in the wake of high political violence among party leaders, presidential candidates and supporters of the different political parties across the country. An ugly event that has seen dozens of party supporters, members and presidential candidates being detained behind bars in police cells.

Despite all these unhealthy happenings lately, the politicians decided to put aside their differences, dine on the same table and dance on the same dancing floor to celebrate the president’s daughter’s happy moment as if they were not opponents chasing the same seat.

According to many Sierra Leoneans, the weekend’s event should serve as a lesson to political parties’ supporters, especially the young people who have been engaging themselves in political violence, to see the need to walk away from violence and embrace peace before, during and after elections.

“If those who we claim to be supporting, fighting for and killing ourselves for are here now dining, dancing and sharing drinks with laughter, why should we, the commoners be drawing daggers at each other? This makes no sense” a young man who attended the event lamented.
