They are calling on the government to come to their aid because of the challenges they face in stone mining which range from sickness, single parenting among others.

Despite their deteriorated condition and challenges in the stone mining sector these women see it as a quick way to find money for their livelihood.

Isatu Bangura is a stone miner. She said that the reason she is mining stone is as a result of her being a single parent and needing to take care of her two children as she has nothing else to do.

“I feel proud to mine stone because I am not educated and I have no other job to do,” Bangura said; adding that she is paying school fees for her children and caters for food and non-food items for them through stone mining.

According to Bangura the job is difficult but they have no other job or skills to embark on, and so make do with the meager sale of stones they make.

Sarah Kamara on the other hand said she is not happy seeing herself mining stone, but that she has no option.

According to her they face lots of challenges mining stone, adding that she is currently suffering from cold.

Mining stone according to Kamara is one of the biggest challenges they face as women and disclosed that they hardly have sufficient sales after finishing mining stones to make a good living and take care of their family.
