The workshop was also geared towards exposing Sierra Leone to high quality social media content that features inspiring examples of women’s contributions to decision-making and peace-building.

It could be recalled that women and girls were the most vulnerable during the civil war, mudslide and Ebola epidemic in the country and women also contributed greatly towards nation-building but they have been marginalized and stereotyped because of their gender.

During the workshop, journalists were trainedon gender socialization; how societies have been stereotyping women, how women are been portrayed in the media, how media practitioners should understand their audiences better, gender sensitivity criteria, and how journalists should produce programs with and for women.

Journalists were also trained on how to report on gender analysis; how to increase the awareness of women’s participation in democratic processes and peace-building. The workshop climaxed with participants making inputs on the way forward for gender and mainstream reporting and creating content for radio discussion program on the meaningful contribution of women in national development without alienating men as their audience.
