Kabbah spent many years working for the United Nations Development Programme where he retired and returned to Sierra Leone in 1992. In early 1996, he was elected leader of the Sierra Leone People’s Party and in 1996, President of Sierra Leone with 59% votes, defeating his closest rival, Dr. John Karefa-Smart of the United National People’s Party  in a runoff election.

Kabbah was born on 16th February 1932 at Pendembu Village in Sierra Leone and died on March 13th, 2014 in Freetown. He was survived by 5 children; Michael KabbahAhmad Tejan Kabbah JrMariama KabbahIsata Kabbah and Abubakarr Kabbah and spouse, Isata Jabbie Kabbah. The late gentleman has always been sadly missed for his soft voice and kindness.
