According to one affected resident Abbas Kamara, the flooding took place as a result of heavy downpour, added to the fact that garbage disposed in drainages diverted the rising waters which then found its way into peoples’ compounds, parlors and rooms.

Other eye witnesses informed AYV that this is not the first time they are experiencing such disaster in this area, adding that had it not been for the timely intervention of gallant youths coupled with the efforts of the affected residents that saved the situation, stopping it from doing worse harm.

The residents are calling on the relevant authorities to provide adequate garbage bins alongside timely garbage collection, adding that they are suffering for want of proper garbage collection system, and that if this situation persists then they are afraid or worse days whenever it rains heavily.

Another affected resident explained that the other reason why the area floods whenever there is a heavy downpour is because people build their houses and shops very close to the gutters, adding that the area is swampy and so when the gutters are filled with garbage these house and shop owners deposit therein the area floods whenever it rains.
