These were the words of AMISOM Acting Police Commissioner Dundun while speaking at a colorful ceremony marking the end of tour of the Sierra Leone Police contingent serving as peacekeepers in AMISOM, Somalia.

He expressed his gratitude to Sierra Leone and Zambia for allowing their officers to serve on the Africa Union (AU) Mission.

He appealed to other Police officers still serving in the Mission to be professional and dedicated to ensuring that AMISOM’s mandate is achieved.

The event was attended by senior AMISOM Police officers including, the AMISOM Police Coordinator for Operations, DCP Daniel A. Gwambal and the AMISOM Police Reforms, Restructuring and Development Coordinator, ACP Maxwell Chikunguru, among others at the ceremony the capital city Mogadishu.

Outgoing officers, including the Sector Coordinator for Hirshabella, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Kangombe from Zambia was among the officers honored. In a brief statement, he said they are happy about their contingent’s achievements during their tour of duty, especially in the areas of training and mentoring the Somali Police Force members.

“Though the mission has been challenging, we were up to the task, as we were able to do our part and now, we are leaving this mission to give others the opportunity to continue with the process of strengthening Somalia’s Police Force”, ACP Kangombe highlighted.

The AMISOM Police component is made up of the Formed Police Units (FPUs) and Individual Police Officers (IPOs) in providing operational support to train, mentor and advice the Somali Police Force (SPF) officers.

AMISOM Police in Somalia have been playing a pivotal role in ensuring that the Somali Police Force is adequately capacitated and able to take full responsibility of their country’s policing needs when AMISOM takes a final exit in 2021.
