It is a global celebration observed in the first week of October each year.

Deputy Director General of NASSIT, Mohamed Gondoe, said the Week is used as a platform to call on pensioners to update their records and to emphasize on good customer service.

He informed his audience that they have introduced the Customer Birthday Wish Program, which recognizes their esteemed customers on their birthdays.

“Recently we organized a birthday party for a sample of our pensioners whose birthdays fall between January and June of this year; plans are underway to organize the July to December pensioner’s birthday.” Says Gondoe.

He further maintained that they have recruited more inspectors to help in the registration process of customers.

On his part, Arthur Bell says he has been a pensioner with NASSIT since 2004. He pointed out that he was experiencing challenges in collecting his benefits from banks but now noted that the Trust has updated over the years.

“If pensioners have their full details and keep them updated, they’ll receive their benefits in 4 weeks” says Bell.

Another pensioner, Prince Macarthy who was once a Police Officer, said he had never experienced difficulties with the banking system whiles collecting his benefits which is often said to be a challenge.

This year’s event is tagged: “The magic of service” and will start on 7th and expected to end on 11th October 2019.

NASSIT was established by the National Social Security and Insurance Trust Act No. 5 of 2001. It is a Statutory Public Trust charged with the responsibility of administering Sierra Leone’s National Pension Scheme.
