Sierra Leone Police have sent serious warning to Teachers in Kenema wanting to stage what they termed as a ‘peaceful protest’; to seek redress through the appropriate means and within the ambit of the law.

The Force further encouraged the Teachers to abide, as contravening the 1965 Public Order Act will meet a strong resistance from the police.

According to the SLP, they have observed with keen interest in the notice making the rounds on social media with caption: “Teachers with pin codes without salary in Kenema are planning to stage a demonstration come September 5, 2021”.

The Force say inasmuch as these affected teachers have legitimate grievances to express their dissatisfactions, they are as well reminded of Section 17 (1) of the Public Order Act of 1965 which condemns the organising or holding a demonstration without prior notice to police and let them bear in mind of the COVID-19 State of Emergency.
