The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (EC-SL) has held consultations with the Western Area Rural District, the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs and Statistics Sierra Leone (SSL) in preparation for the upcoming Village Head Elections.

The Commission said the meeting was to present and finalise the Village Boundaries to enhance the smooth conduct of the Village Heads Elections.

Five representatives from each village, comprising the Village Head, Village Women’s Leader, Village youth leader, Village Imam/Pastor, and one Village Elder with extensive knowledge of the village graced the stakeholder meetings in Waterloo and Hastings respectively.

The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone is preparing to conduct elections for Village Heads across the entire Western Rural Area in the coming weeks. This superintending of elections of Village Heads is part of the constitutional mandate of the EC-SL.

The EC-SL enjoys administrative independence and says it “aims to achieve high levels of effectiveness, accountability, neutrality and efficiency necessary to ensure autonomy as mandated by law” in conducting the said elections.
