The Parliamentary Committee on Planning and Economic Development, chaired by Hon. Peter Y. Koroma has convened a pivotal session at the Administrative Building of Parliament.

The meeting focused on a comprehensive briefing on Sierra Leone’s forthcoming Voluntary National Review (VNR) regarding the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2024.

The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED), in collaboration with UNFPA Sierra Leone. The session aimed to prepare Members of Parliament and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) for the upcoming UN High-Level Political Forum in July 2024, where Sierra Leone will present its VNR.

Sierra Leone’s VNR aligns with the SDGs Acceleration Roadmap, a national commitment aimed at achieving SDGs targets within the 2030 agenda. This roadmap, embedded within the Medium-Term National Development Plan (2024-2030), underscores the nation’s dedication to global development benchmarks.

In a similar development, the Parliamentary Committee on Lands and Country Planning, chaired by Hon. Quintin Salia-Konneh has attended a public disclosure of the Peninsula City Construction project, at the York Community Center, York village, Western Rural District.

In his opening statement, the chairman of the Committee who also doubles as chairman of the ceremony said such a massive project would transform the rural community into an advanced and modernized city. He reiterated that the project agreement was ratified by Parliament and was authentic and developmental.

“This project would create employment for thousands of compatriots and would build the image of Sierra Leone” he assured and went on to inform stakeholders that the project was part of President Bio’s agenda.

During the presentation on the public discourse, Consulting film revealed to community stakeholders and Members of Parliament that, the project worth a multimillion dollar and construction of a five star hotel with many others recreational facilities including residential homes, International conference center and with earmarked tourist attractions.
