The Havelock Grounds at Fourah Bay College came alive today as students officially kicked off the much-anticipated Inter-Hall Football Tournament, proudly sponsored by Dr Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, Executive Director of the National Sports Authority.
Addressing students, players, and organizers, Dr Abdulai expressed deep fulfillment — not only in his capacity as the country’s head of sports but also as a proud alumnus of Fourah Bay College.
“Supporting this tournament gives me joy,” he said, “because it’s more than just football. It’s about unity and togetherness, despite the political divide commonly referred to as ‘black and white’ on campus.”
He emphasized the vital role of student unionism, urging students to remain peaceful and constructive in their activities. Dr Abdulai highlighted that non-violent engagement fosters not only development within the university but also prepares students for life beyond campus.
He concluded by thanking the organizers for their initiative and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting student sports.
“My doors will always be open to you,” he assured, “especially when it comes to the growth of sports and youth development.”
The Inter-Hall tournament is expected to run over the coming weeks, with participation from all major halls of residence, igniting excitement and healthy competition across the Mount Aureol campus.
