General Ali Mohamed Al-Ali, Director of the Arab and International Police Liaison Department and Head of Qatar’s National Central Bureau, has met with Sierra Leone’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. William Fayia Sellu, on the sidelines of the 27th INTERPOL African Regional Conference in Cape Town.
IGP Sellu, who also serves as Chairman of the West Africa Police Chiefs Committee (WAPCCO), discussed with General Al-Ali ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Qatar’s law enforcement agencies and the Sierra Leone Police.
During the meeting, General Al-Ali highlighted Qatar’s ongoing investments in artificial intelligence, software development, and cybercrime response, assuring that these initiatives would foster enhanced cooperation with Sierra Leone. He reaffirmed his office’s commitment to providing the necessary support and encouraged continued engagement to address emerging challenges in policing.
In response, IGP Sellu expressed his appreciation for Qatar’s INTERPOL leadership’s commitment, underscoring that investment in technology and capacity building is critical for advancing modern policing. He further emphasised the importance of such partnerships as Sierra Leone prepares to host the ECOWAS Summit under the chairmanship of His Excellency Rtd Brigadier Dr. Julius Maada Bio.
“The hosting of the ECOWAS Summit is a major national security responsibility, and enhanced cooperation with international partners will be essential to ensuring effective policing,” IGP Sellu stated.
Both officials reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and advancing joint efforts to combat transnational organised crime.
