Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella said his comments concerning the review of the country’s educational curriculum is not in any way trying to belittle or lower the esteem of certain courses being offered in tertiary institutions in Sierra Leone. He said the country needs an urgent upgrade of its educational system, in order to ensure that we get education right. He made this statement as a guest speaker at the Inauguration of the Council of Heads of Technical and Vocational Institutions in Sierra Leone.

He further established that the call for the upgrade of the country’s educational system should not be considered as any political statement. But one that is meant to generate genuine public discuss and debate.

The Presidential aspirant made this statement awake widely held criticism and call on him to publicly apologize by a cross section of students at the Peace and Conflict Studies Department, Fourah Bay College. According to the students, they alleged KKY had made statements in an interview he granted on the Voice of America (VOA) that the Peace and Conflict course offered is none employable in the current job market. This the students consider derogatory to their course.
